If you are many of those who use facebook on mobile you might have surely faced the problem of not being able to tag your friends in comments, statuses, etc as there is no direct option for doing so as on PC though you can tag images easily. Here I show you a step by step procedure of overcoming this limitation.
When you’re on PC, you just have to write ‘@’ and type the first few letters of the name of person you want to tag in the status and select the friend from the drop-down menu suggested by Facebook. It’s that easy. Also, Facebook has provided the same feature in its Android and iPhone apps.
For those who don’t have smartphones or those who are using java enabled phones and symbian phones below symbian 3 OS Facebook hasn’t provided any way, like in smartphones, to tag friends from Facebook mobile.
Even if you have a smartphone you can not tag your friends while using facebook via sms (if I am wrong here please comment below) so this trick might be useful for them as well.
Using this trick you will be able to tag people on Facebook no matter you’re using it from mobile gprs or via SMS.
Step 1:
First of all, you’ll be needing profile ID of your friend you want to tag in the status update or comments. You can get it through PC or mobile.
Case1:
To know the profile ID from PC or mobile simply open the profile of the friend in your browser and copy the digit numbers appearing after the keyword “ id= “ in the URL. Do not copy any alphabet only digits denote the profile id. Have a look at the screen shot below in mobile.

On PC it looks like this
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=109870780000209
here id is 109870780000209
Case2:
Most of the Facebook users are now using custom URL for their profiles. In that case you wont be able to view profile id if you opened the person’s profile . As is shown here:

So go to friend’s profile, click on the profile picture . Now note down the profile ID as shown. Note that if the person is using custom url there wont be “id=” keyword in the url if you are using PC though it is there on mobile so it isn’t easy to find the profile id on PC. I figured it out anyway as shown:
On pc :
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.427928191260.212335.543476260&type=1
here the id is 543476260
on mobile:

Step2 :
Lets update a status now. Type @[profileID:name] where you want the tag to appear in your status update. For eg: if ‘109870780000209’ and ‘Parneet Singh’ are the profile ID and the name of the Facebook profile respectively, then type the following and publish the status.
I miss you @[109870780000209:Parneet Singh]
Here is the final screenshot I tagged a friend from mobile.

Write anything you want before or after the tag code. That’s it!! The tag will appear and your friend will be notified unless you post to an audience of ‘Only Me.’ It worked for me perfectly.
If you know of any better way of tagging let me know via comments and if you find any error feel free to point out.
